Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Night (4x12 hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Patient Ratio: 1:5-7

Job Description

• Work on a 5S MedSurg unit with 3x12 or 4x12 night shifts including weekdays and weekends
• Start date: ASAP
• Possible contract extension available
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system: Cerner
• Scrubs are not provided
• Blocked schedule: unit will try to accommodate scheduling requests but cannot guarantee

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Attendance Expectations

• Facility tolerates only 2-3 call-offs per contract due to attendance concerns

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service)
• Proof of E-Verify or attestation
• Background checks including:

  • 7-year criminal history check (covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (updated within 30 days of start and for every renewal)
• Education verification and RN license verification (license must be current and verifiable within 2 days of submission)
• Skills checklist updated annually and specialty-specific
• Minimum 2 clinical or charge nurse references within the past year
• Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands, updated annually
• Drug screening: 10-panel within 30 days of start and updated annually
• Immunizations and health requirements:

  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD within 1 year or equivalent) or chest X-ray if history of positive TB
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years (preferred)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers or vaccinations within 2 years or signed declination
  • Hepatitis B titer, 3-series vaccine, or declination
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
  • COVID vaccine or declination required
• Completion of facility-specific learning modules including Cerner EMR training prior to start
• Completion of ReadySet (RS) health assessment surveys prior to start
• Competency exams and color blindness testing as applicable
• Signed confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements prior to start
• Badge photo per facility instructions required before clearance

Continuing Education

• 8 hours of stroke education CEUs required annually (Relias or approved vendors accepted)
• NIH Stroke Certification must include continuing education/contact hours to count toward CEUs

Additional Notes

• Candidates must submit all required certifications and documentation in one PDF packet during application
• Candidates are not allowed to start with any certification pending
• Point of Care Technician application required for Cath Lab RNs (not applicable for this MedSurg role)
• Facility uses Cerner EMR; candidates must complete Cerner training modules before starting
• Attendance and reliability are critical due to facility’s low tolerance for call-offs
