Registered Nurse – PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
Location: Wichita Falls, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- ASAP start, no later than July 27
- Strong cardiac nursing background required; unit primarily cares for heavy cardiac and CVA (stroke) patient population
- Must be proficient in managing cardiac drips, heparin, nitroglycerin, and similar medications
- Work schedule options:
- Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Night shift, 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- 84 hours biweekly with a 72-hour guarantee
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Texas
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Cardiac PCU (Progressive Care Unit), including experience within the last year
- At least 2 years of total travel nursing experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Proven experience specifically in PCU (Progressive Care Unit) nursing
Required Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS and BLS (as above)
- Other certifications as applicable based on facility requirements (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, ENPC, NIH Stroke Certification) – check specific assignment details
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Annual safety and orientation acknowledgments
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- E-Verify or attestation
- Background check within 1 year of start, including SS trace, county searches for last 7 years, nationwide, and sex offender registry
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
- Facility-specific documents and acknowledgments as required prior to start
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start (2-step PPD or equivalent)
- Required vaccinations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (series, positive titer, or declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines, positive titer, or history of chickenpox)
- Seasonal flu vaccine (required October 1 – May 31; medical/religious exemptions possible)
- COVID-19 vaccination documentation required
- Drug screening (9-panel negative drug test within 1 year; instant acceptable)
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references within the last 3 years
- Resume or employment application copy
- Annual skills checklist and orientation updates
- Facility-specific forms and acknowledgments must be completed prior to start
Summary
This travel nursing opportunity is for an experienced Registered Nurse with a strong cardiac care background, able to manage complex cardiac medications and drips. The position requires prior travel nursing experience, current Texas RN licensure, and certifications including ACLS and BLS. The role offers night shifts in a progressive care unit with a 13-week contract length.
