Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Jersey City, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Work Hours: 35.25 hours per week
- Patient Ratios:
- Critical Care: 1:1 to 1:3
- Stepdown Unit (if floated): 1:4
- Patient Mix: Acute renal failure, GI surgery, CVAs, TBIs, ventilated patients
- Float Units: May include additional units based on skill set and hospital needs
- Scheduling: Every other weekend; no block scheduling
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
- Charting System: EPIC
Experience Requirements
- Years of Acute Care Experience: Minimum 1.5 years
- Specialty Experience: Neuro ICU/SICU experience required with strong skills in:
- EKG interpretation
- Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring
- TAVI/TAVR procedures
- Insulin protocols
- CVVHD/CRRT
- IV skills
- Lumbar drains
- Post-neuro surgery care
- EVD and ventilator management
- Preferred Experience: IABP, Impella, LVAD
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-timers accepted)
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA required; RQI and instructor cards acceptable
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA required for all adult critical care units
- NIH Stroke Certification: Required for adult critical care specialties and related units; must be current
- Additional Certifications (as applicable):
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) for relevant units
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) for L&D, Mother-Baby, NICU, Nursery
- Chemotherapy certification if applicable
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) for L&D and Mother-Baby units
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) for ER, Pediatric ER, Behavioral Health RNs
- Pass/Fail Testing: Pharmacology and EKG competency exams required with remediation policy in place
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks: Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches
- Drug Screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 30 days of start
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 12 months, cleared for essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- TB testing (blood or skin test) within required timeframes; additional clearance if history of positive TB
- Immunizations and titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Fit test and respiratory medical clearance as applicable
- Latex allergy questionnaire if job tasks require glove use
- Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination
- References: Two references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Work History: Minimum 7 years documented work history with verification of at least 1 year prior to start date (New Jersey state requirement)
- Skills Checklist: Must be completed and updated annually
Additional Notes
- Locals accepted; no fresh graduates ("NO FRESH HEARTS")
- Floating to other units may be required based on hospital needs and skill set
- Must complete facility-specific orientation and education sign-offs prior to start
- Compliance with facility policies including flu vaccination, background attestations, and safety training is mandatory
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity critical care environment with a diverse patient population and requires strong clinical skills and certifications. Prior travel experience is not mandatory, making it suitable for first-time travel nurses with the required acute care experience.
