Clinical Documentation Specialist

Job Overview

  • Travel/contract RN role
  • Remote work; candidate must be in the Pacific Time Zone
  • Start date: ASAP
  • Contract length: 13 weeks
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
  • Full time through October, with possible reduction in hours after October based on need
  • First-time travelers accepted

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Oregon
  • Clinical Document Improvement Specialist (5 years of experience)
  • Clinical Document Improvement Specialist experience within the last year
  • BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association or Heart and Stroke Foundation
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • 2 years of experience in managed care or workers' compensation insurance
  • Utilization Review experience
  • Case Management experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSN
  • 2 years of medical case management experience
  • 2 years of experience in managed care or workers’ compensation insurance
  • EPIC experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct utilization management and medical necessity reviews
  • Develop, update, and interpret medical policies, protocols, and criteria
  • Perform prospective and retrospective reviews of health service requests
  • Coordinate case management, quality improvement, provider profiling, and benchmarking
  • Communicate with physicians, medical directors, committees, providers, insurers, and internal teams
  • Track disputed surgical cases and prepare litigation reports
  • Document review findings, decisions, diagnoses, and procedures accurately
  • Provide consultation and training to non-medical staff and clients
  • Support quality committee work and provider education
