Registered Nurse - Step Down Unit (Progressive Care/Med/Telemetry)

Shift: Night (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)

Job Summary

Provide specialized nursing care to medically complex patients requiring telemetry and frequent monitoring in a Step-Down/Progressive Care Unit. Deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Manage complex patient conditions in a fast-paced environment using strong critical thinking and clinical judgment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct care for patients needing telemetry, frequent monitoring, and specialized interventions.
• Perform comprehensive assessments (respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, hemodynamic).
• Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and lab results; notify providers of changes.
• Administer medications safely, including IV medications per orders and policy.
• Manage care for patients with telemetry monitoring, IV drips (cardiac, vasoactive, insulin infusions), central/PICC lines, oxygen therapy, high-flow oxygen, CPAP/BiPAP as appropriate.
• Implement and evaluate individualized care plans.
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, case management, and other disciplines.
• Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment, medications, and discharge instructions.
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in EMR.
• Recognize early signs of deterioration and escalate care or activate rapid response as needed.
• Adhere to infection prevention, fall precautions, and patient safety standards.
• May float to other medical/surgical units as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Indiana
• Minimum 1 year of Stepdown nursing experience, with experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

• Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Night (7 PM to 7:30 AM)
• May float to other med/surg units
