Medical-Surgical Acute Care RN

Overview

• 13-week assignment in Peoria, Illinois
• 12-hour day shifts, 36 hours per week
• 31-bed MedSurg Acute Care unit
• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius

Required Qualifications

• Active IL RN licensure or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS certification
• Negative drug screen for all panels
• Last four digits of SSN
• Clinician’s middle initial
• Requested time off

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ year of hospital experience
• ACLS preferred for Charge RN position

Unit Details

• Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights
• Surgical staffing ratios may increase to 1:6 on days and 1:7 on nights
• Charge RN coverage is provided 24/7 and may include a patient assignment
• House supervisor coverage is available 24/7
• 3-4 PCTs on days and 2-3 PCTs on nights, depending on census
• Patients may require oxygen up to 6L NC and stable BiPAP/CPAP at night or as needed
• Telemetry patients are monitored remotely by the house-wide telemetry department
• Unit equipment is primarily Phillips
• Common patient population includes general medical patients with various diagnoses

Scheduling and Work Expectations

• Work every other weekend
• Holiday rotation per policy
• No call requirement
• Travel RNs are first to float to other units as needed
• 12 hours of non-billable orientation with a unit preceptor
• Travelers may collaborate with unit leadership for additional scheduling preferences

Clinical Responsibilities

• RNs are required to titrate Heparin drips
• RNs are expected to attempt IV starts and use unit resources if unsuccessful
• Inpatient phlebotomy is used for blood draws
• Pharmacy prepares all medications
• Hospitalist/Intensivist coverage is in house 24/7

Additional Notes

• Staff provide their own scrubs; any color is allowed except pediatric scrubs
• Local rate adjustment applies to clinicians with permanent addresses within 50 miles
• OSF call-off policy allows the equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks without penalty or shift repayment
