NICU Registered Nurse

Contract Length

13 weeks

Schedule

• 12-hour shifts
• Night shift: 7pm–7am
• Day/night rotating schedule
• Mainly nights
• Weekends: desired, negotiable, 1–2
• Holidays: may be required for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s if needed

Required Qualifications

• BLS certification
• NRP certification
• Registered Nurse with 2+ years of experience in a Level 3 NICU or higher

Preferred Qualifications

• ACLS
• PALS
• Experience with neonatal assessment, IVs, medication administration, feeding, vent care, and CPAP care
• EPIC familiarity

Unit Details

• Level IV NICU
• 50 beds
• Ratios: 1:1 or 1:2 in ICU; 1:3 or 1:4 in NSDU
• Common patient types include micro preemie, preemie grower, surgical, BPD, NAS, genetic anomalies, and cardiac cases
• Titration of drips is under MD order
• Common drips include dopamine, dobutamine, prostins, insulin, and sedation
• Charge nurse and house supervisor both present
• Nurse aides on unit: 2 per shift
• Neonatologist in house 24/7
• Respiratory therapy equipment available
• Monitored beds; no techs, and RNs are not required to read strips

Floating

• May float to PICU, Inpatient Pediatrics, and Labor & Delivery

Additional Notes

• Can be placed in stepdown if vent/CPAP experience is limited
• Orientation is provided by NICU clinical preceptors and depends on experience
