Registered Nurse (RN) - Centralized Registry Float

Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: 3 weekend shifts in 4 weeks
Dress Code: Caribbean Blue scrubs


Job Summary

  • Provide general medical-surgical nursing care on Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary units.
  • Float to other medical units as needed, focusing on areas with the greatest need.
  • Patient ratios typically range from 1:5 to 1:6.
  • Care for a diverse patient population with chronic illnesses (COPD, Diabetes, CHF, ESRD), GI issues, infections, neurological conditions, and mental health disorders.
  • Assist patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, I&D, biopsies, amputation).

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 1.5 years of experience in Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care settings.
  • At least 1 year of MedSurg experience at a large hospital (600+ beds).
  • Proficient in assessments, care planning, inter-professional communication, and electronic health record (EHR) utilization.
  • Experience managing IV therapy, heparin and insulin drips, wound vacs, feeding tubes/pumps, chest tubes, and telemetry monitoring.

Equipment & Technology

  • Epic electronic health record system
  • Pyxis medication dispensing machines
  • Accucheck blood glucose monitors
  • Hospira IV pumps
  • Sequential Compression Devices (SCDs) for VTE prevention
  • Heating/cooling pads
  • Telemetry monitoring

Orientation & Training

  • Jump Start orientation program including:
    • 1 day general hospital orientation
    • Approximately 5 days nursing orientation
    • Epic training classes included
  • 8 hours of non-billable orientation (note: clinicians returning within 12 months are not eligible for non-billable orientation)

Licensure & Certifications

  • Indiana RN license or compact RN license (effective as of 7/1/20) required
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required

Additional Information

  • Local candidates within 50 miles may be eligible for a rate adjustment.
  • The client may cancel or call off up to 24 hours before the start of the assignment during the 13-week contract.
  • Candidates should disclose any required time off during the assignment.

This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a diverse patient population and requires flexibility to float within medical units.
