Job Details

  • Specialty: Emergency Center (ER RN)

  • Contract Length: 8 weeks
  • Shift: 12-hour shifts
  • Start Date: ASAP

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years experience in a Level 1 Trauma Facility (if less, must have prior travel experience)
  • At least 2 years of ER experience in an Acute Care setting
  • Prior travel experience required if under 5 years Level 1 Trauma Facility experience
  • Must have prior experience with Meditech 6.15 EMR

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred and required for certain pay rates

Additional Requirements

  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)
  • Driver’s license address must be within 75 miles of the facility
  • COVID immunization not required, but unvaccinated must agree to weekly testing
  • Must pass an online Cardiac Rhythms test (minimum 80%)
  • ESI Triage Exam during orientation (remediation provided if needed)
  • Must have experience with Alaris pumps preferred

Work Environment

  • Unit: Emergency Room with 25 monitored beds, 6 fast treatment beds, 6 fast treatment chairs, 2 trauma bays, recess bay, and dedicated stroke room
  • Behavioral health: 4-bed behavioral lockdown area staffed by psych
  • Patient volume: Approximately 140 visits per day
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
  • Charge nurse and nurse aides/paramedics present (2-3 per shift)
  • Security and patient sitters available
  • Weekend requirement: Every 3rd to 4th weekend
  • Holiday requirement: Every other holiday
  • Scrub color: Caribbean Blue
  • Central monitoring techs on duty
  • Respiratory therapy available 24/7 dedicated to ER
  • Pharmacy coverage: In department 11 hours/day, on campus 24/7
  • Nurses perform lab draws and start IVs
  • Floor-specific orientation: 1-2 shifts depending on comfort level

Patient Population and Care

  • Patients range from pediatrics to geriatrics
  • Trauma cases accepted and managed (some neuro trauma transferred out)
  • Orthopedic cases partially managed onsite
  • No burn patients accepted
  • Facility is a designated CVA (stroke) center

This position is ideal for experienced ER nurses with strong trauma background and Meditech EMR proficiency, looking for a short-term contract in a busy Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department.
