Registered Nurse – PCU Float

Location: Salem, Oregon
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 48 hours


Job Description

  • Position requires strong experience in Telemetry (Tele) or Intermediate Care (IMC).
  • Patient ratios: RN 1:4-6, CNA 1:6-13 (days), 1:10-13 (nights).
  • Floating within scope is required, including to a nearby hospital.
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend (not greater than every other).
  • Locals and candidates with pending Oregon licenses are accepted.
  • No first-time travel nurses accepted.
  • Must have 1 year of experience within the last 3 years in PCU, IMC, or Telemetry.
  • Clinicians will not be accommodated for block scheduling.
  • Facility uses Epic for charting.
  • Free parking available.
  • Facility is a Magnet, Teaching, Level II Trauma Center with 569 staffed beds.
  • Scrub color: Royal Blue.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Oregon
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • One completed travel assignment
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification
  • Experience with telemetry, including cardiac rhythm interpretation and dysrhythmia management
  • Experience with cardiac drips (nitroglycerin, Cardizem, amiodarone)
  • Rapid response team activation experience

Required Documents & Compliance

  • Valid driver’s license or state ID (passport accepted if no driver’s license).
  • Criminal background check within 90 days, including 7-year search and national databases.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and ongoing every 30 days.
  • Education verification required for non-licensed providers only.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
  • Drug screening (10-panel) within 90 days of start.
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap vaccine or facility-specific declination.
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) titers or vaccines.
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccination series (booster or declination if low titer).
    • Varicella titer or vaccines.
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or signed declination.
  • Fit mask testing onsite within first week of start.
  • Badge photo with white background required at least 8 days prior to start.
  • References: 2 references within last 2 years showing 1 year in comparable specialty; one must be supervisory within last 12 months.
  • Skills checklist specific to Telemetry/PCU required prior to start.
  • Core competency training modules must be completed by due date.

Additional Information

  • Floating includes coverage at a sister hospital.
  • 36 hours guaranteed per week under 8, 10, or 12-hour rules.
  • Client may cancel up to 3 shifts during the 13-week assignment.
  • Emergency license holders can submit applications without a permanent Oregon license.
  • Badge and onboarding photos must be submitted in JPEG format.
  • HealthStream modules and facility-specific training required before start.
  • No block scheduling accommodations.
  • RTO (Return to Office) restrictions: absences over 10 days require approval.

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with strong telemetry or IMC skills seeking a travel contract in a large, Magnet-designated acute care hospital with a supportive float pool team.
