Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Description

  • Work primarily in a stroke Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with potential floating to other PCUs as needed.
  • Required to work 5-6 weekend shifts every 6 weeks.
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
  • Local travelers within 100 miles are not accepted.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Valid RN license in Kentucky.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Telemetry experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Pass/Fail advanced dysrhythmia exam acknowledgment.

License Requirements

  • Kentucky RN license or a compact nursing license.

Certifications & Competencies (Must be current and maintained)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted.
  • NIH Stroke Certification.
  • Pass/Fail EKG/Medication Exam (facility-specific advanced dysrhythmia exam).
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit specifics (e.g., PALS, ENPC, TNCC, Chemotherapy, NRP, EFM, CPI).
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology, math ability, unit-specific competencies, and conscious sedation as applicable.
  • Annual renewal and compliance with all required certifications and competencies.

Background & Health Requirements

  • Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and employment verifications.
  • Education verification or official transcript/diploma.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by a licensed provider.
  • Immunizations and health screenings including:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (annual renewal)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or boosters
    • Hepatitis B immunity or declination (annual renewal)
    • Varicella immunity or booster
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (annual)
    • COVID vaccination series or approved exemption
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, updated annually.
  • Fit mask testing within 1 year, updated annually.

Additional Requirements

  • Must pass facility-specific EKG exam with a minimum score of 80%.
  • Must complete required skills checklists annually.
  • Two supervisor references verified within 6 months of start.
  • Employment history verification covering the last 7 years.
  • Must be able to complete all required documentation and certifications prior to start.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, acute care environment with stroke and neuro patients.

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
  • This position requires flexibility to float to other PCUs as needed.
  • Weekend and holiday shifts are mandatory.
  • Local candidates within 100 miles are not eligible for this travel assignment.
