Overview

  • Travel/contract pediatric stepdown registered nurse role in Chicago, Illinois
  • Night shift: 4x12 hours, 19:00–7:30
  • Start date: ASAP
  • Contract length: 13 weeks
  • First-timers not accepted
  • Local candidates accepted
  • Pending license accepted
  • Floating within scope may be required
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated

Unit Details

  • Inpatient pediatric unit with 39 beds
  • Cares for patients ages 2 weeks to 18 years
  • 50–60% of patients have technology dependence
  • Acute care setting for children with chronic illness
  • No drips or surgical patients

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care (2 years of experience)
  • PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care experience within the last year
  • One completed travel assignment
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • PALS issued by American Heart Association
  • Ventilator management experience
  • Tracheostomy care experience
  • G-tube care experience
  • 1:4 patient ratio experience
  • Pediatric Cardiac Stepdown experience
  • Experience with Meditech

Schedule

  • Weekend coverage required every other weekend
  • 4x12 schedule accepted
  • 3x12 schedule also accepted

Compliance / Pre-Start Requirements

  • RTO must be approved and included in the contract before the start date
  • Flu vaccination required; medical and religious exemptions accepted
  • COVID vaccination required; exemptions not accepted
  • Drug screen required within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Tdap within the past 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray required
  • Measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and varicella immunity or vaccination documentation required
  • Background, education, and state registry / abuse / sex offender checks required
  • References required within 3 years of start
  • Skills checklist required annually
