Job Opportunity: Oncology Nurse Navigator RN (Registered Nurse)

Location: Mission Viejo, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)

Role Summary

• Position: Nurse Navigator RN specializing in Oncology
• Work setting: New state-of-the-art Cancer Center (Outpatient Facility)
• Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients undergoing ongoing Oncology treatment
  • Manage administrative workload related to Oncology patient care plans
• Charting system: EPIC

Experience & Requirements

• Minimum experience: 3+ years preferred (2 years will be screened)
• Oncology experience required: 3 years Oncology experience mandatory
• Certifications: ONCC (Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation) / ONS (Oncology Nursing Society) required
• Licensure: Must have an active RN license for California (pending state license not accepted)
• Locals and true travel candidates accepted
• Weekend shifts: Not required
• On-call: Not required
• Floating between units: Not required

Required Certifications

• ONCC/ONS Oncology Certification
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
• Other certifications may be required based on clinical track (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background Check: Must be completed within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
• Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
• Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
• Immunizations & Health Documents:

  • TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) within 10 years or declination
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
  • COVID vaccine or declination
• Respirator Safety Clearance: Required for travel candidates, updated annually
• References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty within the last 3 years
• Employment Application: Must include at least last 5 years of employment with explanations for gaps or overlaps

Training & Competency Requirements

• Must complete Providence Health and Services required WorkRamp modules prior to start, including:

  • Core modules for RN in California
  • Specialty-specific modules for Oncology Nurse Navigator role
  • Annual regulatory and compliance training
• Epic training modules: Required for Providence facilities; must be completed after access is granted
• Competency exams as applicable (e.g., medication/pharmacology competency)

Additional Notes

• Float Policy: Acknowledgement required; may be asked to float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance
• Badge Photo: Passport-style photo with neutral background required for badge issuance
• State-specific requirements apply for background checks and licensing verification (especially for Washington and Oregon placements, if applicable)
