Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Burlington, Vermont
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Position Summary
Seeking a CVOR Registered Nurse for a travel/contract assignment at a large academic teaching hospital. The role involves working 12-hour shifts (0645-1915) with one or two 12-hour weekday calls (1900-0715), usually only one call during the week unless short-staffed, plus one full weekend of call every 5 weeks. Flexibility with scheduling is required to meet unit and patient care needs.
Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience with high competency in cardiovascular/open heart nursing.
- Prior Travel Experience: Required. Candidates must have prior travel experience.
- Facility Experience: Experience in a large (500+ beds), academic, teaching hospital required.
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- CNOR preferred
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit
- EMR Experience: Epic experience within the past 2 years is required and non-negotiable.
- Additional Skills: Must be able to float to other OR suites as needed (general, ortho, neuro, ENT, etc).
- Licensure: Valid state nursing license required.
Schedule
- 12-hour shifts (0645-1915)
- One or two 12-hour weekday calls (1900-0715)
- One full weekend call every 5 weeks
- No block schedules
- Orientation offered bi-weekly on Mondays
Facility & Location Notes
- Large academic teaching hospital with 500+ beds
- Public transportation is NOT accessible; reliable personal or rental vehicle strongly recommended
- Vehicles should have all-season or snow tires from November through April
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- Education verification based on highest degree
- MVR (Motor Vehicle Report) release required for Home Health and Hospice specialties
- Various certifications and competencies including medication/pharmacology competency exam, color blindness testing, and others as required
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- N95 Fit Test required prior to assignment and updated annually
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap within 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray if positive
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B series and titer or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccination or exemption (medical/religious) required during flu season
- COVID-19 vaccination or declination required
- Pneumonia vaccination or declination if assigned to NY facility
- Drug testing may be required depending on facility location
- Vermont-specific requirements include Adult and Child Abuse Registry consent and Vermont Crime Information Center (VCIC) background check
- Completion of EPIC and Cornerstone training modules prior to start
- Various facility-specific documents and policies must be reviewed and acknowledged
Additional Notes
- Candidates must explain any employment gaps over 90 days
- Complete and detailed work history including bed count, EMR, and facility type is required for submission
- Candidate must provide professional references and skills checklist within 12 months
- Reliable transportation is essential due to lack of public transit options
