Job Opportunity: MS/Tele Float Registered Nurse

Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with strong telemetry and med-surg experience to float in a telemetry setting. The role involves caring for general medical-surgical patients and moderate volume orthopedic surgical cases, including total joint ortho experience.
Required Experience
- Minimum 3 years RN experience
- Minimum 2 years telemetry experience (higher of the two experience requirements)
- Experience with telemetry/med-surg competencies, specifically orthopedics and simple gynecological procedures (hysterectomies/myomectomies)
- Must be able to read cardiac strips
- Accepts first-time travelers (prior travel experience not required)

- Adolescents through geriatrics
Work Details
- Average census: 36 patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
- Every other weekend coverage required
- No call requirement
- Scrubs color: Royal Blue
Required Skills and Competencies
Cardiac Monitoring and Emergency Response
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Telemetry monitoring (unit and remote)
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
Cardiovascular Care
- Post cardiac angiogram care
- Post myocardial infarction (MI) care
- Pre/post cardiac catheterization
- Pre/post cardiac surgery care
IV Therapy and Phlebotomy
- Blood product administration
- Central line and PICC line care/management
- Starting IVs
Medication Management
- Heparin protocols
- Management of cardiac drips (no titration)
- Management of vasoactive drips (no titration)
Respiratory and Thoracic Care
- Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac)
- External CPAP/BIPAP
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Nasal cannula and oxygen face masks
- Non-invasive airway management
- Tracheostomy management
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
License Requirement
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for California
Additional Requirements
- Must complete pass/fail dysrhythmia/EKG competency exams (two exams required)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB), Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), or VIP onsite course with physical, in-person portion required within 90 days of start
- Fire Card specific to Los Angeles required (2-week grace period allowed after start)
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start, confirming ability to perform job duties without limitations
- Negative 7-panel drug test within 30 days of start
- Required immunizations and/or proof of immunity:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer or vaccination series)
- Hepatitis B vaccine series, positive titer, or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)
- COVID vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)
- Annual TB questionnaire required
Scheduling and Time Off
- No requested time off (RTO) allowed during the first two weeks of assignment
- Once RTO is submitted, changes are only allowed to cancel time off
- Confirm all needed time off before submitting RTO for the full 13-week contract
References and Documentation
- Two professional references from manager or above required, validated within 2 years
- Employment application/resume with at least 1 year of relevant work experience and 7 years of work history if applicable
- Skills checklist updated annually
This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic telemetry unit with a diverse patient population and requires strong clinical skills in cardiac and orthopedic care. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
