Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract) - CVICU
Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) - 42 beds
Job Requirements & Details
- Experience: Minimum 2 years CVICU experience (excluding travel experience) required. First-time travelers accepted.
- Specialty Experience:
- Immediate post open heart surgical admission experience required
- Experience with Swan Ganz catheters and manual thermodilution syringe to calculate Cardiac Index
- Epicardial/transvenous pacing wire experience
- Common Diagnoses: Advanced Heart Failure, Multi-vessel Disease, Coronary Artery Disease, Pulmonary Hypertension, Valvular Heart Disease
- Common Procedures: Assisting with bronchoscopies, intubations, tracheostomies, central line insertions, arterial line insertions, Swan Ganz catheter line insertions
- Unit Volume: 6-8 bypass pump surgical cases per day, including post-surgical heart transplants and LVAD patients
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Weekend: Every other weekend
- Call: None
- Floating: Within facility/scope of practice as needed
- Holidays:
- If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it
- If 2 major holidays fall, expected to work both
- If 3 major holidays fall, expected to work 2 of them
- Major Holidays Include: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day
- Contract Length: 12 weeks (interpreted from contract_length value)
- Orientation: Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 12 hours for 12-week assignment)
- RTO (Return to Office): Maximum 7 days
- Locals: Accepted at same rate
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Full compliance required to start on time; non-compliance results in 2-week delay due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
- Background Checks:
- Must be completed within 30 days of start
- Includes criminal, sex offender, education verification, and others as per facility standards
- Licenses & Certifications:
- State RN license verification within 30 days prior to start (Georgia license required)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- Other certifications may be required depending on specialty (PALS, NRP, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification)
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for ICU and related specialties (3 attempts allowed)
- Color Blind Testing required
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months (with additional requirements if past positive)
- Immunizations: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination form if negative titer)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, no pending results allowed
- Flu vaccination or declination required for flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)
- Other:
- Skills checklist updated within 12 months
- Work history verification required (can be pending with proof running)
- References: 2 clinical references required
Additional Notes
- Candidate profile reviewed by manager within 48 hours after confirmation to determine fit
- Facility requires review and signing of Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance policies prior to start
- Floating within facility as needed, within scope of practice
- Privileging and vaccine declination forms apply only to certain specialties (not applicable here)
