Registered Nurse (RN) - Per Diem

Location: Mission Viejo, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Facility: Providence Mission Hospital (float required to Providence Mission Hospital Laguna Beach)
• Employment Type: Per Diem
• Shift: 12-hour shifts
• Charting System: EPIC (experience required, no training provided)
• Patient Population: Adults & Geriatrics
• Units: MICU, SICU, Cardiac, Neuro

Key Requirements

• Minimum 2 years recent/current ICU experience (no more than 3-month gap)
• Skills in line draws and IV site maintenance required
• Must float to similar or lesser specialties as needed
• EPIC experience with 3s/4s systems required
• AHA ACLS and BLS certifications required
• NIH Stroke Certification required for ER, ICU, Telemetry, Stepdown/PCU, PACU, Rehab units
• Proof of flu vaccination or signed declination (mask required if declined)
• No artificial nails allowed; nail length must not extend more than 2mm beyond fingertip
• Must wear correct scrub color: RN - Royal Blue
• No background or license hits will be approved

Clinical Skills & Competencies

• Neuro and Surgical ICU experience
• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Multi-system organ failure management
• IV insulin protocols
• GI surgery care
• Chronic/Acute renal failure management
• Accessing ports, arterial line, central line, PICC line management
• Blood product administration
• Starting IVs, continuous IV sedation, procedural sedation
• Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
• CVA/acute stroke management
• Ventilator care including BiPAP, CPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
• Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
• Infection prevention and isolation precautions (PPE use)
• Care of surgical wounds with drains and wound vac

Orientation

• No formal orientation provided
• Candidates must be comfortable working independently at all assigned facilities

Certifications Required

• ACLS (AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI)
• BLS (AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI)
• NIH Stroke Certification (every 2 years)
• Optional but preferred: Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or CPI for Psych/Behavioral Health
• Other certifications as applicable per unit description (e.g., CHEMO not required for Per Diem)

Compliance & Documentation

• Background check within 45 days of start, updated annually
• Drug screen (10 panel) within 90 days of start
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Flu vaccine or declination
  • COVID-19 vaccine or declination (if onsite)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
• Fit mask testing required for travel candidates (not required for Per Diem after 5/20/24)
• References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in comparable specialty within last 3 years
• Employment application covering last 5 years required

Additional Notes

• Candidates must complete required Providence WorkRamp training modules prior to start
• Must comply with Providence’s no artificial nails and nail length policy
• Must be willing and able to float between Providence Mission Hospital locations as needed
• Providence strictly enforces no background or license issues for Per Diem candidates

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with strong EPIC skills who are flexible and able to work independently in a fast-paced critical care environment.
