Registered Nurse – PICU (Columbus, Ohio)

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)

Job Description

  • Must be willing to float to NICU, CV PICU, Emergency Department, Stepdown, and Medical-Surgical units as needed.
  • Assignments will be appropriate to experience and float expectations.
  • Recent Level 1 PICU experience required.
  • Preferred minimum of 2 years PICU experience; candidates with closer to 3 years PICU experience will be considered even if first-time travelers.
  • Two supervisory/professional references required, including at least one supervisor or manager reference. Charge RN reference acceptable for one. Peer references are not accepted.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Ohio State or Compact Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Must have recent Level 1 PICU experience.
  • Prior travel experience is not required.
  • Valid government-issued photo ID matching legal name on RN license and certifications.
  • Required certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted.
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted.
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted.
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – AHA/AAP certification required for NICU float assignments.
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – as applicable.
    • ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) – as applicable.
  • Education verification required, including highest degree verification through National Student Clearinghouse or equivalent.
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start.
  • Required immunizations and health screenings:
    • TDAP vaccine within last 10 years (no titer substitution).
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within last year, with specific protocols for positive results.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no religious exemptions accepted.
    • Varicella – positive titer or 2 vaccines required.
    • Hepatitis B – declination, completed vaccine series, or positive titer required.
    • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 31 – May 31); medical/religious exemptions require facility approval and mask-wearing during flu season.
  • N95 fit testing required within 1 year of start and updated annually. Onsite fit testing allowed if prior testing not completed before start.
  • Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including 7-year county search, education verification, and international background check if applicable.
  • Fingerprinting (OH BCI/FBI) required within 60 days of start and updated for each new contract.
  • Various state-specific registry and exclusion list checks required within 30 days of start.
  • Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable.
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be updated annually.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must comply with facility infection control policies and sign related documents prior to start.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start required by agency standards (not necessarily by facility).
  • Legal name on all documents must match RN license exactly; no nicknames or aliases.
  • Temporary IDs or driver’s licenses are not acceptable for compliance purposes.
  • Candidates with a positive TB history must complete additional facility-specific questionnaires and follow-up protocols.
  • Candidates must provide proof of fingerprinting appointment and completion within 24-48 hours of contract signing.
  • Background checks and license verifications must be approved by compliance before facility approval.

This position offers a challenging and dynamic environment requiring flexibility to float across multiple pediatric critical care and acute care units, with a strong emphasis on compliance and credentialing.
