IP Rehab/Ortho - Calder 1 RN

Overview

• Location: Lufkin, Texas
• Contract length: 6 weeks
• Shift: Nights, 12 hours
• Hours per week: 48
• Setting: Rural hospital
• EMR: Outdated

Unit Details

• Unit med-surg: AC3
• 9 beds on Ortho and 13 beds in Inpatient Rehab
• If med-surg census does not support it, the nurse may be assigned IRF patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 on MS and 1:6 on IRF
• Charge nurse is present on each shift and takes patient assignments
• PCT support is assigned on nights
• Tele patients are cared for on the unit, with monitor techs monitoring off-site

Required Qualifications

• BLS
• RN license
• Every other weekend availability

Preferred Qualifications

• Ortho experience
• Tele experience
• IVs
• Foley catheters
• Dressing changes

Responsibilities / Clinical Focus

• Common patient types include total knees, hips and shoulders, CVAs, encephalopathy, and lumbar fusions
• The unit also takes clean medical-surgical patients when bed needs require it
• RN support may include ADL care and vital signs when needed
• RT handles neb treatments and CPAP setup

Scheduling / Float / Orientation

• Holidays are rotated
• No self-scheduling
• If census is low, staff stay on the unit or float to another hospital unit if there is greater need
• Floating is only to another MS unit with similar staffing ratios
• Orientation includes three days of classroom orientation plus two precepted shifts on the floor

Dress Code

• Navy blue scrubs
• Scrubs are not provided
