Registered Nurse - Med Surg Telemetry

Location: Farmington, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Facility & Unit Overview

Level II Trauma Center with 43 beds in the Medical Unit
Patient population: Adults (≥18 years)
Patient ratios: 1:5 and 1:6
Common diagnoses: cirrhosis, sepsis, pneumonia, respiratory illnesses, wounds, congestive heart failure (CHF)
Equipment used: vital signs machine, bladder scanner, IV pumps, thermal imaging, lifts, tube feeding pumps
Electronic Health Record system: Cerner

Position Details

Specialty: Medical/Surgical with Telemetry
Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
Weekend requirement: At least 2 weekend shifts per month recommended
Float requirements: As needed by facility
Block scheduling considered on a case-by-case basis
Option for 36 or 48 guaranteed hours

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Preferred Qualifications

Charge nurse experience preferred but not required
Oncology skills helpful but not necessary

Additional Information

Submittal requirements include resume, area-specific competency exam, skills checklist, and screening questions
No call requirements for this position

Pros

Unit is comprised of many travelers. Core staff and travelers have all been fantastic! The unit is set up quite well to manage the surges of patients. It is the only main hospital around so it can definitely provide good experience. Most of the providers I've encountered over the last couple months actually listen to the nurses and are easy to work with.

Cons

It is definitely busy before the size of the town. I can't say I have any other cons.
