Job Opportunity: Director of Infection Prevention and Control
Location: Brooklyn, New York
Employment Type: Clinical - Allied - Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
Contract Length: 6 months
Job Description
- Monitor and ensure compliance with regulatory agency recommendations and requirements.
- Collaborate with leadership in Long Term Care (LTC) to align infection control goals with overall medical center objectives.
- Engage regularly with LTC department directors to promote communication and joint planning of infection control programs.
- Coordinate infection control activities on resident care units alongside medical and nursing leadership.
- Conduct daily rounds to monitor compliance with infection control and employee health policies.
- Work with Occupational Health Services to manage employee furloughs related to communicable diseases.
- Develop, implement, review, and revise infection control policies and procedures throughout LTC.
- Provide clinical infection control consultation to all departments.
- Deliver orientation and continuing education on infection control practices to staff, residents, and families.
- Represent infection control on committees and co-chair the Antibiotic Stewardship Program.
- Participate in planning continuing education programs relevant to infection control clinical practice.
- Maintain open communication with all levels of management and staff.
- Review and report infection control precautions to nursing and administrative leadership.
- Collect and analyze data on nosocomial and community-acquired infections; identify causes and present findings.
- Identify infection risks and implement control measures through surveillance and data review.
- Determine infection rates and investigate infection clusters or unusual outbreaks.
- Recommend and implement isolation precautions to protect residents, staff, and the community.
- Liaise with New York State and City health departments, CDC, and other regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate with hospitals, departments, and external agencies on infection control research.
- Lead Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) projects and serve on the QAPI Board.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Training in Infection Control and Prevention and/or Epidemiology.
- Certification in Infection Control and Prevention preferred.
- Demonstrated clinical knowledge in epidemiology and infectious diseases.
- Ability to measure key indicators such as clinical outcomes, infection rates, and reporting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to motivate others.
- Experience in program development, accountability, change management, consensus building, decision making, and time management.
- Ability to work effectively with government agencies, community leaders, management, and hospital staff.
- Proven competence and progressive leadership experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Membership in nursing and infection control organizations is a plus.
- Commitment to continuing professional growth and development.

The most problem I had was floating to PICU and the unit is not esthetically pleasing as it is an older hospital. But as for flexibility the manager was awesome and cost of living is expensive.
