Job Summary

  • Provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in-center and home sleep apnea testing (HSAT).
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Provide sleep-related education and support to patients and families.
  • Oversee other sleep center staff and perform duties defined for a sleep technician.
  • Credentialed in sleep technology (RPSGT or RST) required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Document patient arrival, interactions, and consent for testing.
  • Review and verify departmental orders and insurance/prior authorization.
  • Review patient history and medical necessity documentation.
  • Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting, desensitization, and education.
  • Prepare patients for testing and select appropriate equipment.
  • Document routine observations during testing and correlate physiologic data with behavioral observations.
  • Perform equipment and physiologic calibrations; monitor data quality.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment; ensure infection and quality control.
  • Implement patient safety and sleep-related therapeutic interventions.
  • Verify data integrity and completeness of test documentation.
  • Score sleep/wake stages and clinical events (respiratory, cardiac, limb movements, arousals).
  • Generate accurate reports and analyze complex situations.
  • Support quality and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Follow protocols for Multiple Sleep Latency Testing (MSLT) and Maintenance of Wakefulness Testing (MWT).
  • Provide age-specific care for all populations seen in the Sleep Lab.
  • Perform ancillary testing such as oximetry, actigraphy, and home sleep apnea testing.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Polysomnographer, including experience within the last year.
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) certification.
  • Certification from the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM).
  • Certification from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Associate’s Degree in Polysomnographic Technology or completion of a Certificate program in Polysomnographic Technology.
