RN – CV Neuro ICU

Overview

• Temp position in Virginia
• 13-week contract
• 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Night shifts: 7p and 7a
• Every other weekend
• First to float; may float to MSICU and PCCU and care for boarders up to four
• Navy blue scrubs

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Neuro ICU (2 years of experience)
• Neuro ICU experience within the last year
• BLS
• ACLS
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Unit Details

• 16-bed unit
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2
• RNs must read their own strips
• No tele/monitor techs on the unit
• Epic access needed

Patient Care

• Common patient types include stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, subdural hematoma, brain tumors, cerebral edema/increased ICP, hydrocephalus, acute respiratory failure, sepsis/septic shock, pneumonia, ARDS, COPD exacerbation, asthma exacerbation, acute heart failure/pulmonary edema, AKI, DKA, HHS, gastrointestinal bleeding, acute liver failure, and severe electrolyte abnormalities
• Titrate drips are used, including norepinephrine, epinephrine, vasopressin, phenylephrine, and dopamine
• Respiratory support equipment includes mechanical ventilator, high-flow nasal cannula, and BiPAP/CPAP

Holiday Requirement

• 1 major and 1 minor holiday per year
