Required Qualifications
- Current RN license by the Indiana State Board of Nursing
- 1-2 years professional OB/GYN nursing experience
- CPR certification
- ACLS certification (within one year)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification (within one year)
- FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring) certification (within one year)
- Completion of annual EMTALA and MSE education
Skills and Experience
- Knowledge and ability to safely care for patients and newborns in labor and delivery, post-partum, nursery, and clean GYN patients
- Ability to assess, treat, and care for obstetrical patients and neonates
- Recognize signs of fetal distress and deviations from normal labor progression
- Assist in newborn resuscitation and perform examinations related to labor progress
- Provide patient and family education on procedures, newborn care, and post-partum care including perineal care, rest, exercise, and resumption of normal activities
- Administer medications to newborns using proper dosages and techniques
- Ensure required newborn testing is completed before discharge or arranged appropriately
- Maintain accurate and complete patient documentation and records
- Transcribe physician orders accurately and legibly
Responsibilities
- Establish effective working relationships with physicians and healthcare staff
- Delegate tasks appropriately to healthcare team members based on their skills and education
- Participate in orientation of new staff
- Support hospital and nursing policies and promote a harmonious work environment
- Use equipment and supplies safely and efficiently; clean and store equipment properly
- Work in other nursing areas as needed (Med/Surg, ICU, ER) performing duties such as patient rounding, vital signs, glucometer checks, baths, IV starts, and documentation
- Coordinate with other agencies and disciplines to facilitate patient care
- Participate in quality improvement and peer review activities and committees
- Demonstrate flexibility with schedule and job duties
- Stay current with advances in nursing practice
Behavioral Expectations
- Consistently comply with established behavioral standards and policies
This position requires a professional nurse with OB experience who is certified in ACLS, NRP, and FHM, able to provide comprehensive care to obstetrical patients and newborns, and willing to work collaboratively in a dynamic hospital environment.
