Schedule

• Nights
• 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend required
• Must work some major holidays
• 1 on-call shift in a 28-day schedule
• May float between east and west ED locations

Required Qualifications

• 2 years of emergency department experience
• ACLS
• BLS
• PALS or ENPC
• TNCC
• Experience with conscious sedation
• Experience with critical thinking in AMI management
• Ability to triage, if demonstrated

Unit Details

• Level 4 trauma setting
• 24 beds, 4 critical rooms, and 1 trauma room
• Intake model used for lower-acuity patients
• Separate triage area
• Mixed ED holds
• 2 psych/seclusion rooms
• Security present 24/7
• Average daily volume: 80–110 patients
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 for general ED; 1:2 or 1:1 for ICU-level patients in the ED

Additional Information

• Charge nurse generally does not take an assignment
• ED techs and paramedics support the unit
• RT support is available for intubation, vent setup, Bi-Pap, Vapotherm, and ABGs
• RNs read their own telemetry strips
• X-ray/CT transports its own patients
• Phlebotomy may be done by either staff or RN depending on the situation
• Orientation includes 2 days of hospital orientation plus one 12-hour shift in each ED with a mentor
• Scrub color: navy blue
