Telemetry Float Pool Nurse - Chandler Regional Medical Center, Chandler, AZ

Overview

  • Travel contract opportunity for experienced telemetry nurses.
  • Must have 2+ years current telemetry experience.
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (for Neuro unit).
  • Must hold an active Arizona nursing license or compact license.
  • COVID vaccine required or approved declination.
  • Must be able to titrate cardiac drips.
  • Floating required between multiple units and two campuses (Chandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert, 9 miles apart).
  • Dysrhythmia exam required prior to contract signing (max 2 attempts).
  • Pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation.
  • Contract length: 13 weeks.

Floating and Work Environment

  • Frequent floating to sister facility (Mercy Gilbert).
  • Floating between Telemetry, MedSurg, ICU, Cath Lab, ER, observation floor, and other holding areas.
  • Notification of unit and campus given 1.5 hours before shift.
  • Possible mid-shift floating; rare but possible to float between campuses during a shift.
  • Must clock out/in when moving between campuses.

Units and Details

Telemetry B3A (Cardiac Telemetry)

  • 32 beds.
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3-4.
  • Charge nurse present (no patient assignment).
  • PCT ratio: 1 per 16 patients.
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
  • Scrub color: Navy.
  • Centralized telemetry monitoring; RNs must interpret EKGs.
  • No ventilators.
  • Hospitalist rounds during day; on-call at night.
  • No IV team.
  • Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7.
  • Shifts: 12 hours (7am-7pm).
  • Floating to similar or lower acuity units.
  • Orientation: 2 days on the floor.
  • Common patients: Post cath lab, post vascular procedures, day 2 CABG, general telemetry.
  • Medications titrated: Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, Dobutamine (titrate down only).
  • Patient age: 15 years and older.

Tele Neuro (A3 Neuro)

  • 28 beds.
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3-4.
  • Charge nurse present (no patient assignment).
  • PCT ratio: 1 per 16 patients.
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
  • Scrub color: Navy.
  • Centralized telemetry monitoring; RNs must interpret EKGs.
  • No ventilators.
  • Hospitalist rounds during day; on-call at night.
  • No IV team.
  • Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7.
  • Shifts: 12 hours (7am-7pm).

  • Common patients: Neuro post-surgical, post craniotomy, spine, CVAs post TPA.
  • No ICP monitoring.

Medical-Surgical C5

  • 32 beds (Ortho, Surgical, Oncology).
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 (days and nights).
  • Charge nurse present (no patient assignment).
  • Nurse aides (PCTs) on days; 1 PCT or Task RN at night.
  • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (Sat/Sun days, Fri/Sat nights), including one major and one minor holiday.
  • Scrub color: Navy.
  • Telemetry via GE monitors; central monitoring tech reads.
  • No ventilators.
  • Must call physician (no hospitalist or intensivist in-house).
  • No IV team; House SWAT nurse available for difficult IV sticks.
  • Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7.
  • Shifts: 12 hours (7am-7pm).
  • Floating to MedSurg Tele B2C and B2D.
  • Orientation: 2 shifts on the floor.
  • Common patients: 80% surgical, 20% oncology; ortho knee/hip program JCAHO certified; urological, abdominal, Whipple, women's surgeries (no OB/GYN).
  • Use of Spectralink phones (call light attached).

Medical-Surgical B2C

  • 29 beds.
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 (days and nights).
  • Charge nurse present (no patient assignment).
  • Nurse aides (PCTs) on days; 1 PCT or SWAT RN at night.
  • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (Sat/Sun days, Fri/Sat nights), including one major and one minor holiday.
  • Scrub color: Navy.
  • Telemetry via GE monitors; central monitoring tech reads.
  • No ventilators.
  • Must call physician (no hospitalist or intensivist in-house).
  • No IV team; House SWAT nurse available for difficult IV sticks.
  • Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7.
  • Shifts: 12 hours (7am-7pm).
  • Floating to MedSurg Tele C5 and B2D.
  • Orientation: 2 shifts on the floor.
  • Common patients: General MedSurg patients requiring telemetry; Amiodarone, Cardizem titrated down only.
  • Use of Spectralink phones (call light attached).
  • New grad training unit: new grads train with a clinical scholar for 4 weeks.
  • Auto offer off prescreen recommendation.
  • First to float.
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays.

Additional Requirements

  • Must pass dysrhythmia exam within 48 hours of offer (max 2 attempts).
  • Failure results in removal from consideration for 6 months.
  • Pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation; failure results in removal for 6 months.
  • Must be able to titrate cardiac drips.
  • Travel radius: 50 miles.

This position is ideal for telemetry nurses comfortable with floating across multiple units and campuses, able to titrate drips, and meet certification and testing requirements.
