Job Opportunity: RN Step Down
Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work on a unit with the greatest need, which may be Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Medical-Surgical, or Telemetry Acute Care based on your skills.
- Must have 2 years of experience in PCU, Med-Surg, or Telemetry Acute Care.
- Float onsite within your skill set or to other sites within 40 miles if needed.
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system is required.
- Accepts candidates with Med-Surg or Stepdown RN experience (credentialing is the same for both).
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Wisconsin.
- Minimum 2 years of Stepdown experience, including experience within the last year.
- Experience in Med-Surg and Telemetry Acute Care.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Onboarding and Compliance Requirements
- Professional resume/profile and at least two professional references required prior to submission.
- Current license verification and primary source verification within 30 days prior to assignment start.
- Nursys license verification within 30 days prior to start.
- Signed assignment agreement and onboarding documents required before starting.
- Completion of specialty exam, core competencies, EKG exam, and Epic test-out with passing scores.
- Health and immunization requirements including:
- MMR (two vaccines or positive titer, no declinations accepted)
- Varicella (two vaccines, serological evidence, or verified history; no declinations accepted)
- Tdap (valid within 10 years, no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination
- Influenza vaccine recommended during flu season (exemptions accepted with mask requirement)
- TB screening: 2-step PPD or IGRA, chest X-ray if positive, and annual TB questionnaire
- Fit test for respiratory protection (preferred before start, can be done onsite)
- Health statement or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
- Background checks including criminal background, EPLS, and drug screening (12-panel) within 30 days prior to start and updated annually.
- Education and employment verifications completed within 90 days prior to start and updated annually.
- Driver’s license or state ID must be current and match address requirements.
Additional Notes
- Must be able to complete all required Ascension-specific onboarding modules and attestations prior to or at the start of assignment.
- Clinical skills checklist to be completed within one year of start and updated annually.
- Floating to other units or nearby sites may be required based on staffing needs.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with a strong background in PCU, Med-Surg, or Telemetry Acute Care who are comfortable working flexible assignments and meeting comprehensive credentialing and compliance standards.
