Job Opportunity: Pediatric ER Registered Nurse
Location: Newark, New Jersey
Employment Type: Per Diem
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking Pediatric Emergency Department (Peds ED) Registered Nurses to work at a hospital in Newark, NJ. This role involves working primarily in the Pediatric ED, with possible floating to the PICU and other pediatric units.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Jersey
- Minimum 1.5 years of Pediatric ER (Emergency Room) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Current certifications issued by the American Heart Association:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- IV Certification
- De-escalation Training (Management of Assaultive Behavior)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Shift Details
- Shift Time: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
- Maximum 2 shifts per week
- Orientation: 1 day computer training at home, 2nd day on-unit starting at 7:00 AM
Important Policies
- Clinicians must commit to working at least 4 shifts per month at the assigned site
- Cancellation policy: 3 instances of last-minute shift cancellations (within 24–48 hours) will be reviewed and may result in cancellation or final warning
- Clinicians cannot switch locations once assigned
Required Compliance and Documentation
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
- 7-year work history verification (New Jersey state requirement)
- Background checks including criminal, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific exclusions list
- Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel urine test)
- Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol
- Immunizations and titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Fit test and respiratory medical clearance (RespSafety) required prior to start
- Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination
- Completion of medication, EKG/dysrhythmia, IV therapy, and pharmacology competency exams within 72 hours of signing
- Annual education sign-off and facility-specific training completion required
Certifications and Competencies
- Mandatory:
- BLS, ACLS, PALS (per Pediatric ER requirements)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) training for Pediatric ER nurses
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (as applicable)
- IV Therapy/Infusion Exam
- Preferred/As applicable:
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for Pediatric ER)
- Other facility-specific CEUs such as Trauma and Stroke CEUs for Pediatric ER

- Charting system used: Epic
- Scrubs color: Navy Blue
- Parking is free in unrestricted spaces; garage monitored by security cameras
- 1-year separation required for previous staff returning to the facility
