Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical Oncology

Location: Pueblo, Colorado
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Medical Surgical with an oncology focus
  • Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours, nights
  • Days of the Week: Various
  • Staffed Beds: 22
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • Days: 1:5
    • Nights: 1:6 (may flex based on staffing needs)
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to like units as needed
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes, per unit needs
  • Scrub Color: Navy

Patient Population & Special Requirements

  • Care for cancer and medical/surgical patients
  • Unit includes pain management, chemotherapy, neutropenic precautions
  • Procedures include bone biopsies, paracentesis, thoracenteses, chronic pleural drains
  • Equipment used: Hoyer lift, Sara steady, Baxter pumps

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Colorado
  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Additional Requirements

  • Background Checks: 7-year background check including SSN trace, state and federal checks, education verification from accredited nursing schools
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 1 year, signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA
    • Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually
    • Immunizations/vaccinations including TDAP, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu seasonal vaccination (required during flu season)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Drug testing within 30 days of start, updated annually
    • COVID vaccine proof or signed declination
  • Competency Exams: Medication test, dysrhythmia/EKG competency, core parts I-III, OSHA mandatory training, all required within 1 year and updated annually
  • References: Two references from the last two years required, including one from employment within the last year (charge nurse, manager, or supervisor)
  • Employment History: Verification of last 3 years of employment required; gaps over 30 days must be explained

Notes

  • On-call is not required
  • Candidates must be able to meet unit-specific requirements and demonstrate competency in oncology and med/surg nursing care
  • Prior travel experience is not required but preferred for candidates with less than 2 years med/surg experience

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized oncology-focused med/surg unit with a supportive team and a variety of patient care experiences.
