Job Summary: Registered Nurse - Pediatric Emergency Department (Peds ED)

Location: Newark, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Work Schedule: Every other weekend, 36 hours per week
  • Unit: Pediatric Emergency Department (separate from Main ED)
  • May care for holding patients
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:5+ (to be confirmed with traveler)

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse in Pediatric Emergency Department
  • Required Experience: Minimum 1.5 years in Pediatric ED (higher value from description)
  • Preferred Experience: Ventilator management proficiency and PICU experience (possible float to PICU and Pediatrics)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Key Competencies and Testing

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required within 12 months of start
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required as applicable
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) with remediation policy in place

Mandatory Background and Health Requirements

  • Criminal Background Check within 30 days of start
  • Drug Screen (10-panel) within 30 days of start
  • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray as per facility protocol
  • Physical Exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
  • Respiratory Medical Clearance and Fit Test (on-site fit testing mandatory)
  • Influenza Vaccination or approved Medical/Religious Exemption (annual requirement)
  • Immunizations: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (with specific documentation requirements)
  • Color Blind Exam if job tasks require color discrimination

Additional Mandatory Training and Documentation

  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification required for Pediatric ER nurses (online and in-person portions; must be completed by hire date)
  • Annual Education Sign Off and review of facility-specific education materials prior to start
  • Vendor Medical Clearance Form if history of positive TB
  • Facility-specific floating policy acknowledgment
  • Completion of required facility-specific competencies and orientation materials

References and Work History

  • Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
  • Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start, allowing 30-day gaps or less)
