Operating Room Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Shenandoah, Iowa
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Shift: Day shift, 5 days a week, 8 hours per day (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
• Weekly Hours: 40
• Unit: 4 Operating Rooms
• Surgical Specialties: Orthopedics, Gynecology, Urology, General Surgery, Cataracts, Pain Injections, ENT, Obstetrics
• Patient Volume: 5-10 surgical patients per day
• Call Requirements: Call rotation with variable hours; every 3rd weekend on call only (no scheduled weekend shifts). If on weekend call, only 1-2 weekdays worked that week.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse license in Iowa
• Minimum 2 years of OR circulating experience, including experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Experience in an outpatient setting
• Ambulatory surgery experience
• Certifications:

  • ACLS issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS issued by the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in ENT, Endocrinology, Gynecology, Podiatry, and Orthopedics
• Experience with Altera system preferred

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• Background checks within 30 days of start date, including:

  • SSN Trace with all aliases from past 7 years
  • County, Statewide, Nationwide, and National Sex Offender searches
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
• State license verification online within 30 days of start date
• Mandatory Iowa state requirements:

  • Signed Memorandum of Understanding for SING check
  • Iowa Mandatory Reporter Certification prior to start
• Candidate must review and sign:

  • Code of Conduct
  • Confidentiality and Access to Information Agreement
  • Parking Policy
  • COVID-19 Employee Health Attestation

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months of start date
• Tdap vaccine within last 10 years (medical exemption accepted)
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months (or documented past positive with required follow-up)
• Annual TB questionnaire regardless of TB status
• Immunizations or positive titers for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
• Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
• 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start date
• Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining
• Latex allergy screening questionnaire
• COVID-19 vaccination strongly recommended (dose 1 and fully vaccinated if applicable)

Additional Notes

• No scheduled weekend shifts; weekends are on-call only every third weekend
• Call rotation hours vary; call schedule designed to limit weekday shifts when weekend call is required
• Facility performs a variety of surgical procedures requiring versatile OR nursing skills

This position is ideal for experienced OR Registered Nurses with prior travel assignments who meet the certification and licensure requirements and are comfortable with call rotations and a diverse surgical caseload.
