Registered Nurse - NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)

Location: Napa, California

Job Details

  • Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
  • Floating: Required to float between similar units
  • Weekend shifts: Required
  • Block scheduling: Open to accommodation
  • Locals accepted

  • Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off once per two-week pay period

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in California
  • Minimum 1 year of recent NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care) experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
  • Education verification required for nursing degree
  • Drug screen: 9-panel within 12 months of start (updated drug screen not needed if currently working at another facility with less than 30-day gap)
  • References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within last 3 years
  • Employment application: Must include at least last 5 years of employment with month/year format
  • Work history verification required if reference exceptions are requested

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work
  • Fit mask test required for travel candidates (updated annually)
  • Immunizations/vaccinations:
    • TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) within 10 years or declination accepted
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer, declination accepted
    • Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series or signed declination
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer, declination accepted
    • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season or declination accepted
    • COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations not required but unvaccinated must follow infection prevention policies
  • Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use

Competencies and Training

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists required annually
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) certification or fetal heart rate monitoring assessment required for L&D RNs (not applicable here but noted for reference)
  • Annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules required via LMS (Workramp)
  • Epic training modules required prior to or shortly after start

Additional Notes

  • Floating policy acknowledgment required due to potential floating to other nearby facilities
  • Photo for badge required (passport style with neutral background)
  • RTO (Return to Office) restrictions must be included at time of submission
