Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU/MS Unit
Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Description
- Combined PCU (Progressive Care Unit) and Medical-Surgical unit with floating between the two.
- Emphasis on neuro patients, with occasional overflow patients.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio ranges from 1:3 to 1:5 depending on acuity.
- Must be trained on EMU (Epilepsy Monitoring Unit) for monitoring and interviewing epilepsy patients.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system required.
- Local travelers within 100 miles are not accepted.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted.
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification.
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit specifics (e.g., PALS, ENPC, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, CPI).
- Pass/Fail EKG/Medication exam required for ICU, PCU/Stepdown, and other critical care units.
- Certification renewals must be planned if expiring during the contract.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Kentucky.
- Minimum of 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification.
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification.
- Trained on EMU (Epilepsy Monitoring Unit) for monitoring and interviewing epilepsy patients.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Additional Requirements
- Must pass medication and pharmacology competency exams.
- Must complete color blindness testing.
- Must complete unit-specific competency exams annually.
- Must complete RN math ability competency exam annually.
- Must complete pass/fail EKG exam with a minimum score of 80%.
- Must comply with facility-specific policies including confidentiality, acceptable use, electronic communications, and password policies.
- Must review and comply with COVID-19 vendor immunization communication and policies.
- Must have documentation for any medical or religious exemptions for vaccines.
