Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PICU

Job Description

• Primary unit: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
• Float assignments may include Pediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and potentially other units based on skill set and hospital needs (floating to be confirmed with traveler)
• Patient ratio approximately 1:2+
• Unit size: 19 beds
• Charting system: EPIC
• Schedule: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday)
• Scrub color: Navy Blue
• First-time travelers are not accepted

Required Experience

• Minimum 3 years of PICU critical care experience
• At least 1 year of cardiac experience strongly preferred
• Both experiences must be documented on skills checklist

Required Skills & Competencies

• Experience with Medtronic pacemakers and telemetry monitoring
• Proficient in BIPAP/CPAP, ventilators, high flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomies

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in New Jersey
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA required (RQI and instructor cards acceptable)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA required (RQI and instructor cards acceptable)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA required (RQI and instructor cards acceptable)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) preferred but not required
• IV Certification required for all RNs except OR specialties
• Other certifications as applicable to pediatric critical care

Additional Requirements

• Must have completed prior travel contracts (first-time travelers not accepted)
• Background checks including criminal, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific searches required within 30 days of start
• Drug screening within 30 days of start
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
• Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
• Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory
• Annual influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required
• Completion of facility-specific education and safety acknowledgments prior to start
• References: 2 within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
• Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required
• Skills checklist must be completed and updated annually

Important Notes

• Patient care involves critical pediatric patients including cardiac cases
• Floating to other units may be required based on hospital needs and skill set
• Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
• Compliance with all facility-specific policies, training, and competency exams is mandatory
• Candidates must be able to provide all required documentation and clearances prior to start

This position is ideal for experienced PICU RNs with strong pediatric critical care and cardiac experience who have prior travel contract experience and are seeking a 13-week travel assignment in New Jersey.
