Registered Nurse - Medical/Surgical Telemetry

Location: Burlington, Vermont
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • 12-hour night shifts, total 36 hours per week
  • Float to similar medical/surgical floors as needed
  • Care for acute and chronic patients with multisystem needs including elder care, delirium prevention, respiratory, renal, alcohol withdrawal, infectious diseases, bariatric care
  • Acute care of exacerbated chronic illness and complex multisystem issues
  • Geriatric specialty nursing focus
  • Experience required in a large, teaching facility
  • EPIC experience within the past 12 months is mandatory
  • No block schedules allowed
  • Reliable personal or rental vehicle strongly recommended (public transportation not accessible)
  • Orientation offered bi-weekly on Mondays

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Vermont
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical/Surgical Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • Experience in a large, teaching facility
  • EPIC electronic medical record experience within the last 12 months
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • National Tech Certification verification
  • State License 1 verification
  • NURSYS verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP)

Licensure

  • Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Vermont

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (AHA approved)
  • ACLS (AHA approved)
  • NIHSS certification
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as required
  • Color Blind Testing (online)
  • Competency exams as required by specialty

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • N95 Fit Test (annual) with approved mask types
  • Up-to-date immunizations or titers for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B series and titer or signed declination
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates if positive)
  • Annual TB questionnaire if applicable
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
  • COVID vaccination or declination required
  • Pneumonia vaccination or declination required if assigned to New York facility

Background & Compliance

  • Background check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Education verification of highest degree
  • Vermont Adult and Child Abuse Registry consent and search
  • Vermont Crime Information Center (VCIC) criminal background check for Vermont assignments
  • Employment application and work history verification for last 2 years
  • Two professional references from assignments within last 3 years
  • Skills checklist within 12 months
  • Photo for badge (passport style, plain background)
  • Auto insurance proof if using personal or rental vehicle

Additional Notes

  • All work history information must be complete, including bed count, EMR, and facility type
  • Gaps in employment over 30 days must be explained
  • Must complete EPIC and Cornerstone training modules prior to start (approx. 8 hours, non-billable)
  • Must complete COVID questionnaire and vaccination attestation prior to start
  • Must review dress code and telephone usage policies prior to start
  • Reliable transportation required, especially during winter months (Nov-April) with appropriate tires

This position is ideal for experienced telemetry RNs comfortable working nights in a fast-paced, teaching hospital environment with complex patient needs and strong EMR proficiency.
