Shift Details
- Day shift
- 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM to 7:30 PM)
- Total 48 hours per week
Unit and Float Information
- Primary unit: PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
- Float to MedSurg units
- Required work settings include MedSurg/Telemetry, Telemetry, and PCU/Stepdown
Patient Ratios
- 1 nurse to 5 patients
Clinical Requirements and Skills
- Strong cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills
- Ability to start IVs
- Manage Heparin protocols and cardiac drips (no titration)
- Accepts first-time travel nurses
- Local radius: 60 miles
Required Certifications and Licenses
- Current Alabama RN license
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - required based on unit (not required for MedSurg RN)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - required based on unit
- National certification/verification prior to start and upon expiration as applicable
- Primary source verification of state license prior to start and upon expiration
- NURSYS verification prior to start
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Alabama
- Minimum of 1 year of recent PCU (Progressive Care Unit) experience within the last year
- Telemetry experience
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Background and Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked in last 7 years, including:
- Social Security trace
- Statewide and nationwide criminal checks
- National sex offender registry
- EPLS/GSA/SAM checks with all aliases
- HHS/OIG checks with all aliases
- Education verification: Official transcript, diploma, or third-party verification required
- Skills checklist: Required annually
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start (annual renewal not required by client)
- Tdap vaccination or declination within 10 years
- Negative TB test (Qgold, Tspot, or PPD) within past 12 months; follow-up chest x-ray if positive
- TB questionnaire updated annually
- Immunizations or titers required (2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for measles, mumps, rubella)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
- Varicella immunity (2 vaccines, history of chickenpox, or positive titer)
- 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required year-round; mask required if declined
Additional Notes
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required to meet Joint Commission standards
- Must review and sign traveler attendance policy prior to start
- No prior travel experience required; first-time travelers accepted
