LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse) - Local Contract

Location: Newport Beach, California
Employment Type: Clinical - Nursing - Local Contract
Contract Length: 10 weeks

Job Summary

Under the direction of a registered nurse or physician, provides care within the scope of the Vocational Nurse Practice Act and regulatory standards. Assists in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Follows patient identification procedures, provides information for patient procedures, and collects and handles specimens. Implements prescribed interventions for patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and document discharge plans for patients
• Recognize and address ethical, legal, and medical dilemmas in nursing practice
• Maintain a safe patient care environment
• Assist with care and maintenance of department equipment
• Complete accurate charting of patient records and equipment/quality measures
• Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure timely, safe, and quality care
• Provide a safe, HIPAA-compliant environment for patients and staff
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and adapt care plans accordingly
• Participate in continuous quality improvement processes
• Demonstrate effective communication, organizational skills, and infection control practices

Patient Population

• Young adults to geriatric patients with a variety of conditions
• Multicultural patient and team environment

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 1 year of experience in a healthcare facility (new grads may be considered for specialty clinics)
• Basic keyboarding skills (35 WPM)
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work in a team environment
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures, and infection control
• Ability to follow instructions and knowledge of patient age groups served

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Knowledge of registration, order entry systems, patient scheduling, and insurance verification/authorization
• Intermediate Microsoft Office skills

Education & Certifications

• Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Current LVN License to practice in California
  • Current BLS Certification
• Preferred:

  • Phlebotomy Certification
  • Experience in an acute care facility
