Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU/Med Surg/Oncology
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit: PCU, Oncology, and MedSurg (6 East)
Number of Beds: 27-28
Patient Population: Adults
Patient Diagnoses: Oncology and Trauma
Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- PCU: 1:4 (days)
- Med/Surg: 1:5 (days)
- Nights: 1:5-6 patients
Job Description
- Care for oncology and trauma patients in a progressive care unit with mixed med/surg patient population.
- Float within same level of care to PCU and MedSurg units.
- Administer chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, protonix, and titrate drips such as insulin and cardizem occasionally.
- Use specialty equipment including ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan-Ganz, EV-1000), ICP monitoring (training provided).
- Utilize EPIC EMR and Alaris IV pumps.
- Support from nursing assistants, PT/OT, RN case manager, social work, educator, and dietician.
- Focus on patient experience with hourly rounding.
- Scrubs color: Navy Blue.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend, self-scheduling available.
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license.
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience in PCU, oncology, or med/surg.
- BLS and ACLS certifications (American Heart Association).
- NIHSS certification required.
- Oncology chemotherapy certification preferred but not required.
- Pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%.
- Valid driver’s license required at submission.
- Must comply with fingernail policy: artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas.
Orientation & Training
- 2 days of orientation provided.
- Real-time training available for specialty equipment and competencies.
Additional Information
- Candidates must live within a 50-mile radius and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any associated facilities within the specified health system.
- Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are welcome.
- Charge nurse experience requires minimum 1 year.
- Shift times include 7a-7p, 7a-3p, 3p-7p, 7p-11p, 11p-7a, and 7p-7a.
- Teamwork, cultural sensitivity, and a positive attitude are highly valued qualities.
