Unit Overview
- Unit Type: Medical/Telemetry/Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Number of Beds: 32
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Day: 1:4-5
- Night: Occasional 1:5-6
- PCU overflow: 1:3
- Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics with cardiac conditions, including cardiac catheterizations, electrophysiology studies, pacemakers, alcohol-related issues, COVID-19 (BiPAP), general surgical patients with cardiac history, pneumonia, influenza, sepsis, and acute on chronic conditions
- Unit Focus: Telemetry and cardiac care
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license for the state of North Dakota
- ACLS and BLS certifications required
- PCU experience is mandatory
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips independently
- Experience with titrating drips such as Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low dose Dopamine (no Levophed)
- Familiarity with respiratory equipment troubleshooting (BiPAP, tracheostomies, Airvo)
- Epic electronic health record experience preferred but not required
- Prior travel experience not required; first-time travelers are welcome
Job Responsibilities
- Provide PCU-level nursing care with telemetry monitoring
- Titrate cardiac and other drips as ordered
- Interpret cardiac telemetry strips independently
- Collaborate with charge nurses who occasionally take a light patient load
- Work alongside nurse aides/patient care technicians (goal ratio 1:10)
- Assist with respiratory equipment troubleshooting
- Float as needed to other areas including PCU, medical-surgical, and emergency room holds/boarding
Scheduling & Orientation
- Shift Hours: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
- Shift Rotation: 7a-7p and 7p-7a shifts rotate no more than once weekly; schedule may allow blocked shifts based on unit needs
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- Call or Standby: None
- Orientation: 2 shifts (12 hours each) on Friday and Saturday of the first week; independent by Sunday
Additional Information
- Dress Code: Any color scrubs allowed
- Radius Rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any related healthcare system facilities within the radius
- Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals after submission
- Floating to other units as needed to support patient care demands
This position is ideal for a Med/Tele/PCU RN with solid cardiac and telemetry experience seeking a 13-week contract in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
