Job Overview
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Cardiac Telemetry unit specializing in post-op cardiovascular surgery patients. This is a Level 1 Trauma and teaching hospital environment with a focus on tertiary care. The unit cares for patients with diagnoses such as CABG, MVR, STEMI, heart failure, fundoplication, VATS decortication, and vascular repair.
Required Qualifications
- License: Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of core specialty experience in Cardiac Telemetry or related critical care. Level 1 Trauma experience required.
- Certifications: BLS required.
- Skills:
- Ability to titrate drips (Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone).
- Competency in interpreting cardiac rhythms (GE telemetry monitors used; tele techs monitor off-unit).
- Experience with post-op cardiovascular surgery patients highly recommended but not mandatory.
- Exams:
- Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts). Failure results in 6-month disqualification in the region.
- Day 1 pass/fail SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (exceptions apply for some units).
- Other: Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing.
Work Environment & Unit Details
- Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:3 or 1:4
- Support Staff: 1 Patient Care Technician (PCT) per 16 beds; tele techs monitor rhythms off-unit.
- Respiratory Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) available.
- Orientation: 2-day unit-specific orientation (12-hour day shifts).
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling allowed with balanced shifts; 3 weekend shifts required per 4-week block; holiday coverage required.
- Floating: May be required to float to other applicable areas.
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs (not provided).
- Additional Notes:
- No concurrent contracts allowed.
- Must have own vehicle if part of travel teams.
- Strict onboarding deadlines; all documentation must be complete before start.
- Teaching hospital environment; nurses may have nursing students assigned.

- Must comply with facility policies including no facial piercings and natural hair colors only.
