Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (ER)

Location: Woodland, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Work in an 18-bed Emergency Department including 4 fast track beds
• Night shifts, 12 hours per shift, approximately 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend required; holiday rotation with core staff
• Self-scheduling with manager final approval; schedules released 4 weeks in advance
• Occasional mid-shift float to other Sacramento area facilities (rare)
• Report given at bedside; overtime and extra shifts available
• Floor-specific orientation: 1-2 days with preceptor
• Patient types include chest pain rule out MI, exacerbations of chronic diseases, psychiatric holds; major cases transferred to higher-level facilities
• Telemetry skills required: must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
• Charge nurse role available; generally does not take patients but provides break relief
• Nurse aides available as census and staffing dictate

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Active California RN license
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience

Work Environment & Support

• EMR system: Cerner
• Behavioral Health Unit handles mental health patients; agency RNs do not perform triage
• Hospitalist or Intensivist available in-house
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
• Pharmacy available 24/7
• Ventilator patients are uncommon
• IV team not available

Additional Notes

• Candidates must provide 2 supervisory references: one within the last 12 months and one within the last 3 years
• Candidates cannot have been employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by certain affiliated health systems within the past year; PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable
• A Dys exam (competency test) must be completed and passed within 24-48 hours prior to contract signing; two attempts allowed
• Scrub color: Navy; undershirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets optional but must be navy

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in California
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Current ACLS certification
• Current BLS certification
• Current PALS certification
• NIHSS certification
