Contract

• 13 weeks
• 12-hour shifts
• Day shift
• 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Arizona
• Med Surg / Telemetry (2 years of experience)
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
• BLS
• ACLS
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Ability to read dysrhythmia strips

Unit Details

• Medical-surgical stepdown unit with 30 beds
• COVID unit
• Typical patient mix includes general and ortho trauma stepdown patients
• Common care includes chest tubes, drains, wound vacs, and peritoneal dialysis patients
• Telemetry monitoring is used
• CPAP may be present on the unit

Schedule and Work Expectations

• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period
• 1 major and 1 minor holiday
• First to float
• Floating may include MedSurg Tele C5 and B2C

Staffing and Support

• Day and night ratio is 1:4
• Charge nurse does not take patients
• PCTs are on days; nights have 1 PCT or SWAT RN for tasks
• No IV team; SWAT nurse available for difficult IV access
• RT is available 24/7
• Pharmacy is available 24/7
• Physician must be called rather than relying on an in-house hospitalist or intensivist

Orientation

• 2 shifts on the floor

Additional Notes

• Navy scrubs required
• Central monitoring station tech reads telemetry strips
• Confused patients may require 1:1 PCT sitters
• Soft restraints may be used for line pulling
