Registered Nurse (RN) - Centralized Registry Float
Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: 3 weekend shifts in 4 weeks
Dress Code: Caribbean Blue scrubs
Job Summary
- Provide general medical-surgical nursing care on Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary units.
- Float to other medical units as needed, focusing on areas with the greatest need.
- Patient ratios typically 1:5-6.
- Care for a diverse patient population with diagnoses including chronic illnesses (COPD, Diabetes, CHF, ESRD), GI issues (pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, IBD), infections (pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, C. diff), neurological conditions (stroke, dementia, TBI), and mental health disorders (depression, anxiety, substance abuse).
- Assist patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, I&D, biopsies, amputation).
Responsibilities
- Perform assessments, care planning, and inter-professional communication.
- Utilize electronic health records (Epic) and equipment including IV pumps, wound vacs, feeding pumps and tubes, chest tubes, telemetry monitoring, pyxis machines, Accucheck blood glucose monitors, Hospira IV pumps, SCDs for VTE prevention, and heating/cooling pads.
- Manage IV therapy, heparin and insulin drips.
Required Qualifications
- Active Indiana RN license or compact RN license (effective 7/1/20).
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
- Minimum 1.5 years of experience in Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care nursing.
- At least 1 year of MedSurg experience at a large hospital (450+ beds).
Orientation & Training
- Jump Start orientation program including:
- 1 day general hospital orientation
- Approximately 5 days nursing orientation
- Epic electronic health record training
Additional Information
- Call-off policy allows cancellation up to 24 hours before the start of the assignment.
- 8 hours of non-billable orientation; clinicians returning within 12 months of their last assignment are not eligible for non-billable orientation.
- Local clinicians (within 50 miles) are eligible for a rate adjustment.
This position is ideal for RNs with solid MedSurg experience at large hospitals who are comfortable floating within medical units and managing a wide variety of patient conditions and procedures.
