Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Facility Type: Short term acute care hospital
Beds: 426
Trauma Level: Level II Trauma Center
Charting System: EPIC


Schedule & Contract Length

  • Night shifts: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (36 hours total)
  • Work every other weekend
  • Floating as needed
  • Contract length: 13 weeks

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience
  • May need to take non-critical assignments due to mixed patient populations on the unit
  • No explicit prior travel experience required

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - Required for NICU only
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Required for ER, preferred for Pediatric ER
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - Check unit requirements
  • State RN License (Connecticut) - Primary source verification required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS Verification (RN) - Must be run within 30 days of start
  • NIH Stroke Certification - Required for all RNs except Behavioral Health, Case Management, Home Health, OR, Pediatric units, NICU, Labor and Delivery
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - Required for Psychiatry/Behavioral Health, preferred for ER RNs

Competency Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam - Required within 12 months of start, must score 85%
  • Color Blind Testing - Required for all candidates on/after 8/2/2024, must score 80% or higher
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam - Required for Telemetry, MS/Tele, ER, and all ICU units (not required for Neuro ICU, SICU, NICU)

Background Checks & Verifications

  • 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification including foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
  • Transcript or diploma verification as needed
  • Employment application with 7-year work history, no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (clean shaven required)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
  • TB questionnaire updated annually
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (positive titer, vaccines, or documented history)
  • Tdap vaccination highly preferred for Pediatric specialties, Labor and Delivery, Postpartum (declination acceptable)
  • 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccination preferred

  • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
  • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
  • Pyxis ES MedStation Modules (except certain hospitals)
  • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
  • Patient Bedside Rounding Module (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
  • Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module (except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU)
  • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness Module
  • AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
  • New Employee Orientation Module
  • 21st Century Cures Act Module (for RN except Home Health)
  • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
  • eCart Training Module (except Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
  • Chaperone Policy Training
  • EPIC Testing (optional but highly encouraged for those with EPIC experience)
  • Vaccination Booster Medical Exemption form if applicable
