Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Pediatric Cardiac ICU (CVICU)

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in critical care with children and adults with congenital heart disease
  • Prior travel experience not accepted (first-timers not accepted)

Work Schedule

  • 50/50 Day/Night rotation (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM or permanent nights)
  • Weekend requirement: 3 out of every 6 weekends
  • Shift length: 12-hour shifts, typically 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)

Float Opportunities

  • Float to MSICU, MICU, NICU, ACCU units

Required Certifications

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - AHA or American Red Cross only
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA or American Red Cross only
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required if assignment is extended past 13 weeks (not required for PCU)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred for NICU (must have PALS or NRP)

Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Massachusetts, verified within 30 days of start date

Additional Requirements

  • Proof of name change if applicable (for any documents under a different name)
  • Background checks including:
    • 10-year criminal background check within 6 months prior to start
    • Nationwide and county criminal checks, SSN trace, and multiple federal/state sanctions lists
    • Massachusetts Statewide iCORI clearance within 6 months of start date
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Employment application with 10-year work history; gaps over 30 days require explanation
  • Two professional references from two separate recent employers within the last 3 jobs
  • Unit-specific skills checklist within one year prior to start date
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam required for all RNs
  • Respiratory Safety clearance required for all travelers (virtual questionnaire and facility fit testing onsite)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, cleared to work with no restrictions
  • Immunizations and proof of:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap after age 11 acceptable; declinations not accepted)
    • Negative TB test (T-Spot or QuantiFERON blood test within 90 days prior to start or 2-step skin test)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) - proof of 2 vaccinations or positive titer required
    • Hepatitis B - must meet one of the accepted documentation criteria (series + titer, declination, etc.)
    • Varicella - proof of 2 vaccinations or positive titer required
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually (must be on file by November 14)
  • COVID-19 vaccination series or approved medical/religious exemption required; seasonal COVID vaccine preferred but not mandatory
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within last 12 months (not required for advanced practice nurses)

Onboarding and Compliance

  • Completion of facility-specific onboarding packet prior to start
  • Timely submission of required forms including flu and COVID exemption forms if applicable
  • Completion of facility-required Smartsheet attestations for flu and COVID vaccines if vaccinated outside the facility
  • Background checks and credential verifications must be current and compliant with facility standards

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, including experience within the last year
  • One completed travel nursing assignment
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • Experience working with adult patients
