Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - LTAC

Location: Fayetteville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Unit: Long Term Acute Care (LTAC)
  • Shift: Night shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
  • Total Hours per Week: 48
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility needs between like units
  • Block Scheduling: Open to accommodation
  • Local candidates: Not accepted (50-mile radius rule from main campus)
  • First-time travelers: Accepted
  • Return Staff Policy: Must be gone for 1 year to return as a traveler
  • Contract Limit: Maximum of 2 contracts (can extend once), then must be gone for 6 months before returning

Required Experience & Licensure

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Long Term Acute Care (LTAC), with at least some experience within the last year
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience in Medical-Surgical or Telemetry units (MedSurg/Telemetry)

Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA or Military only; must be renewed if expiring the month of start
  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA or Military only; must be renewed if expiring the month of start
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required annually; must pass with 80% or higher (3 attempts max)
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required for awareness; 3 attempts max with remediation required after first failure
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP) but are not specified for this LTAC role

Background & Health Requirements

  • Background check required within 6 months of start, including SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search, and international search if applicable
  • Physical exam required within 1 year, signed by a physician, NP, or PA-C
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
  • Drug test: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • TDAP (within last 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if negative or equivocal
    • Varicella: Titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if negative or equivocal
    • Hepatitis B: Vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination accepted
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Mar 31) or approved medical/religious exemption; declinations not accepted outside exemption
  • COVID-19 vaccine not required but documentation accepted if available

    • Parking registration (if driving)
    • Computer use acknowledgment
  • Photo for badge required immediately upon signing (passport-style, no large earrings, face jewelry, unnatural hair colors, or head coverings unless religious)
  • Modules must be completed by Monday prior to start via facility system
  • Return staff must comply with facility’s return policies and contract limits

Additional Notes

  • Guaranteed hours policy: After 2 call-off shifts in a 13-week assignment, all contracted hours are guaranteed
  • Candidates must be prepared for orientation on the first Monday, which may last most of the day
  • Locals within 50 miles of main campus are not eligible for this travel assignment
