Travel/Contract Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical

Location: Utica, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

Medical Surgical unit
Patient ratios:
- Days: 1:5-6
- Nights: 1:6-7
Return to Office (RTO) policy: Only one holiday allowed; total time off 7 days or less
Local radius: 75 miles (local candidates accepted at a reduced rate)

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or competency
State License 1 Verification
Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (New York requirement)

Certifications (must be current)

BLS (AHA strongly preferred)
ACLS (AHA strongly preferred)
PALS (AHA strongly preferred, if applicable)
TNCC (required for ER staff, if applicable)

Required Documents & Compliance

Government-issued photo ID
Background checks including 7-year work/school history, sex offender registry, and federal exclusions (updated annually)
Education verification
Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (New York requirement)
Physical exam within 1 year of start
Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types required)
Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with specific documentation requirements)
Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
- Varicella (titer, vaccine, or history of chickenpox)
Drug screening (9-panel) within 1 year of start
Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season
Pneumonia vaccination or declination

Competency Requirements

Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% or Angoff score)
Color blindness test (one-time)
Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for ICU, PCU, ER, and certain Med/Surg units; expires every 3 years)

References

2 professional references required for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles (within 3 years)
1 professional reference for per diem non-acute care roles

Additional Notes

All candidates must complete facility-specific online learning modules prior to first shift
Photo for badge must be a professional headshot (plain background, no head coverings)
Various facility-specific forms and acknowledgments must be signed prior to start
