Registered Nurse (RN) - Float Position
Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Float RN position primarily on general medical-surgical units with diverse patient populations.
- Patient ratios typically 1:5-6.
- Night shift: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week, including 3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks.
- Floating limited to other medical units only.
Patient Population & Clinical Experience
- Care for patients with chronic illnesses such as COPD, Diabetes, CHF, and end-stage renal disease.
- Manage GI issues (pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, inflammatory bowel diseases).
- Treat infections including pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, and C. difficile.
- Provide care for neurological conditions like stroke, dementia, traumatic brain injuries.
- Support patients with mental health disorders including depression, anxiety, and substance abuse.
- Assist patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (laparoscopic cholecystectomy, incision and drainage, biopsies, amputation).
Required Skills & Duties
- General medical-surgical nursing care including assessments, care planning, and inter-professional communication.
- Proficient use of electronic health records (Epic).
- Management of IV therapy, including heparin and insulin drips.
- Operation of equipment such as IV pumps (Hospira), wound vacs, feeding pumps and tubes, chest tubes, pyxis medication machines, Accucheck blood glucose monitors, sequential compression devices (SCDs), heating/cooling pads, and telemetry monitoring.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1.5 years of experience in Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care settings.
- At least 1 year of MedSurg experience at a large hospital (450+ beds).
- Current Indiana RN license or compact RN license valid as of 7/1/20.
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Orientation & Training
- Jump Start orientation program: 1 day general hospital orientation plus approximately 5 days nursing orientation including Epic training.
- 8 hours of non-billable orientation (not applicable if returning within 12 months).
Additional Information
- Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs.
- Call-off policy: Client may cancel up to 24 hours before shift during the 13-week contract.
- Local clinicians (within 50 miles) are eligible for a rate adjustment.
