Job Opportunity: PCU/IMC Float Pool Nurse

Location: Centennial, Colorado (Zone 1 - 60 mile radius float zone)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit/Department

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Intermediate Care (IMC) Float Pool
  • Float across multiple PCU/IMC units covering specialties including:
    • General
    • Cardiac
    • Neuro
    • Oncology
    • Rehab
    • Renal
    • Bariatrics
    • Orthopedics
    • Trauma
    • Emergency Department Observation

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

  • Adults to Geriatrics
  • Cardiac, Neuro, Ortho, Oncology, Renal, Urology post-surgical patients
  • General Surgery post-appendectomy
  • Gynecology, Psychiatry/Detox, ENT, General Medicine
  • Stable long-term placement patients

Experience & Skills Required

  • Minimum 2 years of PCU/IMC nursing experience (highest required)
  • Preferred: prior neuro experience
  • Preferred: Epic electronic health record experience
  • Must be comfortable titrating and managing cardiac drips, insulin, ativan, and heparin
  • Experience with cardiac drips, insulin, and ativan required

Certifications Required

  • BLS (AHA)
  • ACLS (AHA)
  • NIHSS
  • TNCC

Nursing Details

  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3-4 depending on patient acuity
  • Charge nurse present on each unit; typically does not take patient assignments unless necessary
  • Nurse aids available on unit
  • Respiratory therapy equipment available (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, etc.)

Scheduling & Shifts

  • Shift: 7am - 7pm
  • Schedule created by leadership for 6 weeks at a time
  • Travelers expected to be flexible and fill gaps in permanent scheduling
  • Weekend shifts: 6-9 per 6-week schedule
  • Holiday rotation participation may be required
  • Rare call or standby requirement (only for low census)

Orientation

  • 1-2 days unit/department specific orientation with a preceptor
  • Week of orientation requires clinician to be in-state (even if some modules are remote)

Float Policy

  • No home base facility; must float throughout the entire 60-mile zone
  • Float assignments may include multiple hospitals within Zone 1 (Colorado Springs area)
  • Must be able to obtain housing that allows floating within the full zone
  • Float assignments communicated before or on start date
  • May float to different acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and Medical-Surgical Telemetry

Dress Code

  • Scrubs of any color allowed
