Registered Nurse (RN) – Adult ICU Pods

Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks (minimum)

Job Summary

Seeking experienced RNs for Adult ICU Pods including SICU, MICU, and Trauma ICU units. This is a teaching hospital with a Level 1 Trauma designation and requires ICU nurses with strong critical care skills and experience in a large teaching facility.

Unit Details

• Unit Size: 40 beds per unit, 120 beds total (SICU, MICU, Trauma ICU)
• Common Diagnoses / Patient Types:

  • MICU: Sepsis, GI Bleed, DKA, RotaProne Therapy, Heat Stroke, Overdose (most intubated)
  • SICU: Post-op vented patients, lung/liver/kidney transplants, severe back surgeries, Whipple procedures
  • TICU: Trauma patients including MVAs, gunshot wounds, closed head injuries, orthopedic trauma
• Bedside Procedures: Bronchoscopy, tracheostomy care, hemodialysis catheter placements
• Float Requirements: ICU travelers must float across all ICU areas and MedSurg/Telemetry units; may float to a secondary campus
• Weekend/Holiday Requirements:

  • 3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks (TICU requires 4 weekend shifts every 4 weeks)
  • Holidays worked in rotation with core staff

Shift & Scheduling

• 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm or 7pm-7am)
• Self-scheduling allowed with scheduler oversight to balance the schedule
• Dress code: Navy scrubs

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years ICU experience required
• Experience in a 600+ bed teaching hospital required
• Must have Level 1 Trauma experience
• Must have experience with Cerner EMR
• Must be competent in sterile technique, Foley catheter insertion, and central line dressing changes (SIMs Lab pass/fail on Day 1)
• Must pass a Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam within 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts)
• ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
• RNs are required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips
• Common titratable and set-rate drip management required
• Must be able to work with nursing students (teaching hospital environment)

Additional Requirements & Notes

• No facial piercings and only natural hair colors allowed
• Male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing
• Travel teams must have their own vehicles
• Candidates cannot hold multiple contracts simultaneously with this employer
• Must have been off permanent staff status with this employer for 12 months to be eligible for travel assignment
• Orientation includes 2 shifts on the floor plus a pass/fail SIMs lab for key nursing skills
• Intensivist coverage 24/7 in-house
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7 with advanced ventilator equipment (Cervo I, Jets, Oscillators)

• Facility will not consider contracts shorter than 13 weeks
• Day 1 pass/fail exam required during orientation
• Strict adherence to onboarding deadlines; incomplete files will delay start dates
• ICU travelers may be required to float to other units and campuses as needed

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with trauma and teaching hospital backgrounds who are comfortable managing complex critical care patients and working in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
